Show #145 Release date: 01. December, 2009

Ivor Wynne Stadium, Hamilton, Ontario, Canada, 28. June 1975. Here's a gig that been long overdue for a podcast..

This features the second to last performance of Echoes with Roger still in the band.  Their performance is excellent and the sound is amazing (after fixing it up of course).

It was the last show of the North American Tour so in a dramatic finale, Pink Floyd's crew decided to go out with a bang and used up their remaining pyrotechnics around the stadium scoreboard.  The explosion at the climax of the show was so intense it blew the scoreboard to pieces and shattered windows in neighboring houses.   All in the name of Floyd.

Please note this will be the last podast of 2009.  I wish you a safe and happy holiday season and a peaceful New Year!

Here is a little something for you while I've been getting my production studio all updated and sorted out.

Show #137 Release date: 12. July, 2009

For this installment, we go to Municipal Stadium, Cleveland, OH, 25. June 1977.  American shows in the summer of 1977 were particularly rowdy, but this recording is probably most notable for the numerous cries of “SIT DOWN!” throughout the show. Fortunately, the music on this release comes out on top for the majority of the show.  The occasional fireworks set off yet Roger manages to keep his cool during this performance but by this time in tour he was already becoming agitated by the carefree behaviour of these massive audiences.  Roger can be heard shouting “46" during Pigs (3 Different Ones) after the second verse, which is one of the identifiers for the concerts on this tour, however he must have lost count because this was actually the 47th show.

The podcast kicks off with Jeff Beck live, last week at the Royal Albert Hall with David Gilmour as surprise guest, performing Jerusalem.

Set One:
01. Sheep
02. Pigs On The Wing (Part 1)
03. Dogs

Show #136 Release date: 30. June, 2009

Thank you so much for all the kind words.  My hearing is about 80% better.  It’s nice to hear somewhat in stereo again.  Now, while I’m still on the mend, here’s a neat little surprise I have for you.  I’m amazed that as soon as I step down for a brief moment, someone is ready to step up.  Brain Damaged listener, Luke of Cardiff, Wales put together something nifty I think you might like.

Luke writes…
“I'm just finishing up a Pink Floyd mix I guess you'd call it...it's like an album length mix of songs, sounds, and other Floyd related stuff.  It's called Wish They Were Here: An Assorted Piece For Pink Floyd Lunatics. Don't know whether you'd be interested in hearing it?  I've looked through the archive and don't think you ever feature mixes or anything like that sent in or anything, but maybe it would be possible to give it a shoutout if people want to listen? I mainly made it for myself but would be cool if some other fans could enjoy it too”.

Luke goes on to say, “It's just over 60 minutes, and has a few vague themes to it. Syd, being one of them. It's not even particularly a mix featuring all my favourite songs so much as songs that I really like that seemed to fit to make an interesting hour. Hope you have the time to check it out man, and maybe even mention it on your show if you like it”.

Luke, you did a nice job, so many thanks for this!  I’m sure it will be enjoyed by thousands and fetch many comments.

Show #132 Release date: 10. May, 2009

This is a little experiment I've been thinking about for a long time. I just got back from a week on the west coast and the amount of time left to get a new podcast done properly is running short.  I figured this is might be the perfect opportunity to reintroduce some archived and forgotten about episodes.

This previous podcast, originally BD42 "Floyd's Worst Moments", featured some of Floyd's not so good moments on stage dealing with technical glitches, power outages, Mother nature and Roger's short temper to name a few.  ...rather fitting after the last podcast.

So, is reintroducing older podcasts an idea worth perusing every once in a while?  Please leave your comments and ideas.

Show #131 Release date: 27. April, 2009

Apologies for the delay on this.  The production process was plagued with technical difficulties.  Plus there was massive amounts of tweaking I had to do several times after not being satisfied with each end result.  It's not the worst but its not the best but it is an interesting gig.  I also had problems with the upload.  Maybe Floyd's luck, or rather lack of with technical issues was contagious.

For this podcast we go to an often forgotten land.  It was Floyd's first and last visit to this country in the Fennoscandian region of northern Europe.  Suurhalli, Lahti, Finland, 10. June 1989.  Enjoy!

Finally a nicely themed podcast if I do say so myself.  I had a little fun with it.  The title pretty much gives the theme away BUT no playlist for this one.  Hahahaha!  I want to keep you on your toes.  There are a few tracks in this podcast that have never been featured before on Brain Damage.

(note: I made a boo boo giving a date for one of the songs, should be 84 not 94.   Mmmmmkay?)

Show #129 Release date: 28. March, 2009

Just when you thought it couldn't get any better... This is an upgrade to the previous 9. May, 1977 podcast "Look Mommy, there's an aeropig up in the sky" (Show #70 Release date: 13. October, 2006).  As it turns out, it was recorded by Reinhart Holhwein.  Not Bill Graham Productions as previously thought.

Reinhart's recording landed in the lap of a master of mastering, Derek McCabe of 'Mouth of the beast', a group of people who master live recordings, mostly Grateful Dead stuff.  The clarity is much better.

Show #128 - Release date: 15. March 2009

Here's an excellent soundboard recording from the Orange Bowl in Miami, 1. November, 1987.  It was a very rainy evening.  So much so that it kept the Pig from making an appearance.  As the show progressed, so did the rain.  Listen closely for the delicate sound of thunder off in the distance while Gilmour comments on the weather.

This recording had several glitches repaired before it landed in my lap but I noticed a few others that got over looked.  I repaired those, lifted the sound and gave it a wider presence, EQ and all that jazz.  Enjoy!

Show #127 - Release date: 28. February 2009

This podcast was taken from a bootleg called "The Good & The Bad."  I left out the bad and give you the good but still lots of tweaking was necessary for this one.

Originally Floyd was scheduled for the 21st but a second show was added at the last minute.  Both shows were recorded by EMI and later had pressed white-label acetates, which included an interview with David in French.  Not much came from these recordings but it's likely they would of been used for promotional purposes and not for commercial release.

It's been a while featuring an early 70's gig.  We go back to 1972.  According to Nick Mason, it was a year when Pink Floyd felt a 'revitalized sense of purpose.'  Four months before the release of Dark Side Of The Moon, the band threw down a great gig in Böblingen, Germany, 15. November 1972.

Show #124 - Release date: 17. January 2009

The first podcast for 2009 comes from a suggestion of another Brain Damaged listener who thought it would be cool to have Floyd songs that appeal to children.  I think quite a bit of Floyd is suitable for children. They might not like it, but it won't hurt'em.  They may even love Pink Floyd.

This podcast is for the little one in your life.  Most of what's featured is early for it seems to have a more playful tone.  Part of the show consists of one long set with some cool sound effects thrown in.  This was a challenging theme and I hope I pulled it off.

1. Here I Go [David Gilmour, BBC"s Radcliffe and Maconie Programme, 9. December 2008]
2. Embryo [BBC's Top Gear, Paris Cinema, London, England, 16. July, 1970]
3. Night of a Thousand Furry Toys - Broken China
4. See Emily Play - "Arnold Lane” B-Side, Acetate #2

Show #122 - Release date: 14. November, 2008

Halloween has always been a flagship holiday in the jam band community, second only to New Year's Eve. And with a band like Gov't Mule, expecting something special is more than fair. Phish are attributed with getting the Halloween spirit going in the jam world with a performance of The Beatles' The White Album in its entirety on 10.31.94. Years later, we've seen costumes and covers of all colors and genres. But, on Halloween 2008, Mule outdid themselves with a second set packed full of Pink Floyd tunes from throughout the psychedelic pioneers' career.*

Show #112 Release date: 30. May, 2008

If any of you fellow Floydians or Floydettes dig Trance, Techno, Ambient House music then this podcast is right up your alley.  If you don’t like that kind of stuff, an open mind is required.

Remember Golgo Hakase?  He did a nice job with his Far East podcast… episode 109.  Check it out if you haven’t.  He sent something else along.  Golgo says “Doc, hope this doesn't get you hot.  I know Floyd fans are pretty divided on the Trance Remix thing. I've been playing around with them for a while now and I've come up with an extended 80 minute jam of what I think are the best of the remixes.  I compiled one track from almost every Floyd album that's been remixed and a few extras to boot”

Show #111 Release date: 17. May, 2008

Finally an end to 20 years of waiting for this rare concert recording to appear.  For this podcast we go back to May 6 1988, Sullivan Stadium, Foxboro, Massachusetts.

It's the standard set list but the band sounds tight and gives the crowd a great performance. The pig met an unfortunate end when it was grabbed by the audience and torn to shreds. Fortunately, the band kept a spare inflatable on hand.

Nick thinks we (because I was there) were "an overly-enthusiastic or fanatically vegan audience."  David asked the crowd, "Did you enjoy your way with our pig?" He then adds, "I don’t know what the fuck happened to it… seems like a lack of discipline will get you torn into bacon around here."

Doctored for supersound, enjoy!

Show #110 Release date: 1. May, 2008

After a two hour delay leaving Denver due to snow, I finally made it back to Boston.

Before I get into what this podcast is, I've got to say, the Denver meet up was tremendous!  Its was an amazing, kick-ass time, I'll never forget.  I met a lot of great people and hopefully made some new friends.

Roger and the band sounded the best I've heard from the Dark Side tour(s).  There's a good chance you'll get to see it on DVD in the future. (and hopefully a near future podcast)

For those of you who didn't go, we wished you were there. Before the show (and after) we all met at a cool bar across the street from the Pepsi Center, called Brooklyn's.  This special version of Brain Damage was created for in-house play for AFG members at the bar before the show.  It was difficult to hear inside but outside, it was cranked very loud and it was very cool.

Show #105 Release date: 22. February, 2008

On the 23rd of May 1968, Pink Floyd performed three shows in one evening.  One gig was just outside Amsterdam but the other two were at Paradiso.

The venue was once an old church and has high ceilings and a balcony overlooking the stage area.  Imagine how cool it must have been watching Floyd perform A Saucerful of Secrets with three large illuminated stained glass windows above the stage.

These two gigs took place within the first six months of Paradiso’s opening as a publicly-subsidized youth entertainment center.  It was also one of the first locations in which the use and sale of soft drugs was tolerated, so space out and enjoy.

Show One
1. Let There Be More Light
2. Interstellar Overdrive
3. Set The Controls for The Heart of The Sun
4. A Saucerful of Secrets

Show Two
1. Keep Smiling People
2. Let There Be More Light
3. Set The Controls for The Heart of The Sun
4. Flaming
5. A Saucerful of Secrets

Tried and true, is the color of blue.  Blue is a teardrop from my eye.  Blue is the notes of a lullaby, and blue is the breeze from the sky.  Blue flows smoothly in streams.  Blue is pretty nice it seems.  I like blue in my dreams. But, then there’s this, my favorite blue, my latest from me to you.  No playlist for this one... makes it more fun.  Enjoy.

Show #103 Release date: 25. January, 2008

The Complexity of staging The Wall live meant that Pink Floyd could not take it on the road, as they had done with live performances of their previous albums.  Instead, The Wall had to be set up days in advance at a select arena, performed for a series of shows, and then dismantled over the course of a couple of days.  As a result, The Wall was performed in only two venues in the United States, and two more in Europe, for a total of just 31 shows.*  This show is the third of six at Earls Court, 6th August, 1980.

Show #99, Release date: 24. November, 2007

Okay… this is the third time posting this.  The first time I left out the last break.  This time I somehow accidentally deleted the podcast after realizing it had no artwork and information in the file.  The worst thing is all the comments got deleted as well.  I’m wicked sorry about that.  Please, feel free to repost.

At the suggestion of a fellow Brain Damaged listener, Fede from Argentina, here's a fantasy live set of Wish You Were Here perhaps the way it would of sounded if Roger hadn't left the band? Also included are two nice Floyd mixes I think you’ll dig.

1. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (pts 1-5) [R. Waters - Bela Vista Park, Lisbon, Portugal, 2. June, 2006]
2. Welcome To The Machine [P.F. - Orange Bowl, Miami, Florida, 1. November, 1987]
3. Have A Cigar [R. Waters - Radio City Music Hall, New York City, 28. March, 1985]
4. Wish You Were Here [D. Gilmour - Royal Albert Hall, London, 29. May, 2006]
5. Shine On You Crazy Diamond (pts 6-9) [D. Gilmour – Royal Festival Hall, London, 18. January, 2002]

…also featuring the mixing of RK
1. Dark side of a dream
2. Passage

Show #98 - Release date: 9. November, 2007

Originally featured on Brain Damage Show #32, Air date: 1. April, 2005 -  Stadio delle Alpi, Torino, Italy, 13. September 1994.  Torino was former host city of the 2006 Winter Games, It's located in the shadows of the Italian Alps close to the French and Swiss Borders.

Taken from the soundboard, this recording could render your copy of PULSE useless had Floyd played all of Dark Side of The Moon on this one, but alas, they don't.  So, you better keep your copy of PULSE around for good measure.

This is the only soundboard recording floating around from Floyd’s 94 Division Bell tour.  The audience as well as the band were having fun and David even gets to practice his Italian a little bit with
the crowd.  During Money, David slips up on the lyrics and starts laughing.  Later, the girls on back up vocals start having their own fun when they unexpectedly started jamming on kazoos.

Show #97 - Release date: 26. October, 2007

I'm trying an experiment, something some of you may like.  I’m thinking every once in a while I should whip up a CDR friendly podcast.  The only drawback is that they're confined to just under 80 minutes.  Let me know your thoughts.

This podcast features an excellent recording taken from the soundboard on the 9th August, 1969 at The Paradiso in Amsterdam.  The gig was recorded by Dutch radio station Hilversum 3 for a future broadcast unfortunately a microphone failure on the bands vocals forced them to perform an instrumental set.  As a result the gig never aired.  The recording surfaced recently with a short set of four numbers with absolutely no vocals, but the sound quality is amazing.

UPDATE 3, Nov 07 -  There has been some recent controversy with this particular podcast.  Find out why in the comments section.

Show #96, Release date: 13. October, 2007

It wasn’t too often other musicians were given the opportunity to jam with Pink Floyd let alone be able to jam with Pink Floyd.

“Frank Zappa is really one of those rare musicians that can play with us. The little he did in Amougies was terribly correct. But he's the exception. Our music and the way we behave on stage, makes it very hard to improvise with us.?
- Nick Mason (commenting on playing with other musicians)

The two progressive rock planets collided on the 25th of October, 1969 at The Actuel Festival in Amougies, Belgium.  Recently, in the last year an audience recording finally surfaced.  Its not the best recording but its all we got.

Show #93 - Release date: 31. August, 2007

I can’t believe it’s already the “end? of summer here in Boston.  Time flies.  The concert featured in the last podcast was roughly around Pink Floyd’s 20th birthday.  I remember 1987 like it was only yesterday.  Here we are, 20 years, staring down the barrel of Pink Floyds 40th anniversary release of their first album The Piper At The Gates of Dawn.  Actually it was on 5th of August but for this podcast we’re marking the 40th anniversary re-release.  The ‘cast is shorter than usual but it’s jam packed with many early gems and you can even fit this one on a CDR.  Hope you dig.

1. Interstellar Overdrive [Arnold Layne French EP]
2. Lets Roll Another One (demo rehearsal)
3. Candy And A Current Bun (mono version) [The Early Singles]

Show #92 Release date: 18. August, 2007

9. September, 1987, Lansdowne Park, Ottawa, Ontario, Canada at Frank Clair Stadium. This is a complete, decent sounding show and the first gig from the A Momentary Lapse of Reason Tour.  The taper and his buddies are certainly enjoying the show as were the rest of the 28 thousand, plus people in attendance.  In fact, the crowd would be the one big drawback to this recording.  They get a little overpowering at times and other times they are well behaved.  You may find yourself wanting to scream "be quiet!"  Unfortunately there isn’t much I can do to fix that but I was able to improve on the sound a little bit.  All that aside, this is a landmark, concert for Floyd.  Hope you dig.

Show #91, Release date: 4. August, 2007

Roger’s KAOS on the road tour lasted only three months and was predominately a North American tour.  Many of Rogers’ gigs were canceled due to poor ticket sales perhaps largely in part by the fact that Pink Floyd was also touring North America at around the same time.

Only two soundboard recordings of live KAOS exist.  Both were later broadcast and have FM quality reception so it adds to the "radio" feel.  This podcast is a mix of those two, one being mostly from Quebec and the other, recorded two weeks later from Wembley.  The remaining gaps were filled using audio taken from an amateur video recording in Quebec.  Unfortunately not every song performed was broadcast and there are no complete soundboard gigs from this tour.  Even the audience recordings seem to be scarce.

Show #90 Release date: 20. July, 2007

The image to the right is an alternate version of the famed back catalogue poster.  The girls are the same except the relics girl is missing and the album order from left to right is different.

Brain Damage listener Shaidar Cuebiyar challenged me to do a podcast only based on that image.  His requirements were as follows;

- One or two live versions of tracks from each album.
- Each performance must have occurred before the poster was made in 1996.
- Performances should be as close chronologically to the relevant album as possible.

Okay, fair enough.

Show #80 Release date: 16. March, 2007

Pink Floyd's stellar performance at the legendary Filmore West in San Francisco, 29. April, 1970.

"Recorded on Pink Floyd's third American tour, this show introduced San Francisco to some of the newer material from the Ummagumma LP, and a taste of things soon to come on the Atom Heart Mother LP, to be released later that year. This San Francisco audience is particularly quiet and attentive, a fact that seems to have facilitated a more intimate, unique and focused performance than other dates on this tour" - Wolfgang's Vault.

Show #79 Release date: 2. March, 2007

Here is something I've wanted to get to for a real long time.  The Final Cut demos.

This is most likely from a production demo reel that somehow got leaked.  This particular recording came from a high generation cassette tape out of Argentina about twenty years ago.  You can imagine how poor the sound quality will be.  Fortunately with today's technology I was able to fix it up some as best I could.

Just as I finished getting everything together for this podcast something had occurred to me, the month of November appears a lot.  Every live cut in this edition was performed in November.  In The Gunner's Dream, Roger mentions the cold November air.

The Final Cut demos

1. The Post War Dream
2. Your Possible Pasts
3. One Of The Few
4. The Heroes Return (Part 1)

Show #75 Release date: 5. January, 2007

This podcast takes care of those who often requested to hear Pink Floyd's free concert staged on a huge barge, moored off the Piazza San Marco, Venice, Italy in front of an estimated crowd of 200,000 people.  The concert was broadcast to over twenty countries and was seen by over 100 million people.

This concert was perhaps one of the more controversial ones for Pink Floyd.  The concert as almost canceled for fear that the vibrations of sound from such an event would damage some of the buildings.  Despite Floyd performing at a lower volume, there was still claims of damage to some buildings and many lamp posts were destroyed from fans climbing on them to get a better look.  Even worse, the city failed to provide the necessary amenities for the fans.  This lead to 300 tons of trash, and human waste being left behind which the Italian Army had to clean up.  The Venice City Council later apologized to the residents and vowed that no similar concert would be allowed again.

The first few songs are included to give you enough time to chill and roll a few good splifs before we dive into the concert portion.

This will be the last podcast of 2006.  So please enjoy this one many times during the holidays and New Year.  With all the bad shit that's happened around the world, and saying goodbye to Syd, it's nice to have some Floyd from the year to look back on.  Good times.

Show #69 Release date: 29. September, 2006

Wow, three podcasts this month.  Lucky you.  For this podcast we visit The Palace Theater in Waterbury Connecticut, 18. March 1973.  The sound quality was rather mucky before I polished it up as best I could.  I had to locate more than one source and even take clips from other shows to fill in some gaps.  It's an "off the beaten path" location for a Pink Floyd gig.  Why not Hartford?  Anyway, this podcast will be last to feature a Dark Side of The Moon set for a while.  Hope you dig!

Set 1:
1. Obscured by Clouds
2. When You're In
3. Set The Controls For The Heart Of The Sun
4. Careful With That Axe, Eugene
5. Echoes

Set 2:
1. Speak To Me
2. Breathe
3. On The Run
4. Time / Breathe (reprise)
5. The Great Gig In The Sky
6. Money
7. Us And Them

9. Brain Damage
10. Eclipse

Encore:
11. One Of These Days

Tribute band The Pink Floyd Experience will be performing at the Palace Theater in Waterbury, CT, Saturday, 10. February 2007 at 7pm (just happens to be on my birthday so I'll see you there)

Show #68 Release date: 15. September, 2006

Recorded last week, 8th September, Mansfield, Massachusetts at the Tweeter Center from Section 2, Row S, FOB, left of center, inside the stacks.  The last half of the first set is my favorite except for when a member of the audience loses his mind after watching the video of Leaving Beirut.  His screaming of "What about 9-11!" at the end of Leaving Beirut, continues on through the beginning of Sheep.  Besides that annoying asshole, there is hardly any talking and the 360 degree sound imaging can be heard. This is an excellent recording for the Tweeter Center.  This podcast starts off with one forgotten intro from the last show.  Enjoy!

Set 1:
1. "Opening theme"
2. In The Flesh?
3. Mother
4. Set the Controls for the Heart Of the Sun
5. Shine on You Crazy Diamond

Show #64, Release date: 2. August, 2006

Since the "Covers" podcast, I've had many people ask about Phish's performance of Dark Side of the Moon.  So I decided to whip up a quickcast of this performance in its entirety recorded on 2. November, 1998Maybe we should call these special, shorter podcasts of Brain Damage, "Brain Stroke?"

Here's the story of how it all came about from Phish.com.

"Over the years, the band has been known to play particularly exceptional shows in order to make otherwise under-attended or remotely-situated gigs more unique. On November 2nd at the E Center in Salt Lake, they decided to keep the Halloween "musical costume" tradition alive for another show - that afternoon, the band requested a copy of Pink Floyd's Dark Side of The Moon CD. Backstage in their practice room, they began to learn the recording, note-for-note. The show began and the first set was full of energy and well-played. Trey was especially talkative with the crowd, and thanked some of the participants from the Dead Goat Saloon. Set two opened with Down With Disease which was followed by The Mango Song, a tune that had been played rarely in recent years. You Enjoy Myself followed and segued into an even more uncommon Harpua. The narration section consisted of a story told by Trey about the main character in the song, Jimmy, and his cat Poster Nutbag, and their journey through the desert to a sold-out show in the hectic city of Las Vegas. Trey referenced the band's first performance in Las Vegas (December 6, 1996) which had also featured the song Harpua, that time with a guest appearance by yodelers and multiple Elvi, and continued with Jimmy getting a ride to Salt Lake City. According to the narrative, the driver of Jimmy's godsend car was listening to Dark Side of The Moon at which point Phish front-of-house engineer Paul Languedoc began the taped effects that kick off the Pink Floyd CD and the band proceeded to perform the album (which they had learned earlier in the day) in its entirety. Having taken the audience on a most unexpected journey..."

Show #62, Release date: 14. July, 2006

There's no talking in the podcast except for the beginning.  The reason being?  Well, there're no words that can adequately express or describe the sadness I feel.  I just can't find the words to say about the passing of "Syd".  He gave the world Pink Floyd and he's perhaps one of the most influential individules in pop culture.  Roger "Syd" Barrett is truly an icon and he lives forever through the music he gave and inspired.

Thank you Roger!

Show #60, date: 23. June, 2006

This special edition of Brain Damage includes covers of favorite Pink Floyd tunes performed by other major recording artists.  I'm very picky when other people cover Floyd music but I enjoy all these bands individually.  Nick Mason feels innovative covers are more preferable to tribute bands.  You be the judge.

  2. Velvet Revolver - Money [Slither EP single]
  3. David Bowie - See Emily Play [Pin Ups]

Show #57, Release date: 12. May, 2006

As promised in the last podcast, here is some earlier Floyd Material.  Some of it taken from a few videos found on YouTube.com*

  1. High hopes [unknown location (looks like Radio City) AOL Sessions, NYC, 5. April, 2006]
  2. Flaming [ORTF-TV Studios, Buttes Chaumont, Paris France - 20. February, 1968]*
  3. Astronomy Domine [Look of The Week, BBC, London, U.K., 14. May 1967]*
  4. Let There Be More Light [ORTF-TV Studios, Buttes Chaumont, Paris France - 21. September ,1968]*
  5. Vegetable Man (demo, stereo version)
  6. summer '68

The Second half of this podcast features the Super Pop '70 VII, Altes Casino de Montreux, Montreux, Switzerland, November 21st and 22nd.  The second show was added at the last minute.  Both shows were recorded and EMI pressed white-label acetates. It's likely these were intended to be promotional tools, not for commercial release.  Astronomy Domine was performed with a violent twist while Cymbaline was victim to a technical glitch, perhaps caused by a cabinet that blew from Roger's bass which caused David to burst out in laughter.

  1. Astronomy Domine
  2. Fat Old Sun
  3. Atom Heart Mother
  4. Cymbaline

Show #56, Release date: 28. April, 2006

Originally Show #19, Air date: 7. August, 2004 - The Boston Garden was a great place to see a concert.  It was built at the cost of 4 million dollars in 1928 by the same people who built New York's Madison Square Garden.  It was originally called  Boston's Madison Square Garden and eventually "Madison Square" was dropped from the name.  The Garden was demolished in 1997.  Today, everything in the photo to the right, is gone.

The Floyd live at The Garden, 18. June, 1975.  Most enjoyable are the performances of You Gotta Be Crazy, which is different from both the 74 and 77 Dogs versions.  The set also has very good versions of Any Colour You Like and one of the last pre-87 performances of Echoes.

Show #55, Release date: 14. April, 2006

David Gilmour opened his North American On An Island tour at New York City's world famous Radio City Music Hall ten days ago.  The concert was absolutely mesmerizing.
I was fairly close to the band, nine rows back.  It was GREAT, however while people up front had the better view, anyone towards the back of the venue had the better sound.  This recording was done by Dan Lynch from the rear, left side of the venue.  In less than 24 hours after the show, he had the concert available on various trading groups on the Internet.
I raise my beer glass to you Dan.

The sound is excellent!  I did however run it through a cool device to bring it out more.  So if you have a good sound system or headphones... just close your eyes and you are there.

David was amazing and Rick was incredible.   It sucked that Nick wasn't there and Roger for that matter, but I kept thinking, "This is at least half of Pink Floyd, or 2/3 of post-Waters Floyd."  Not bad considering it's the closest thing you'll get.

I'd love to know how this came to fruition because it's the best of an '88 gig you'll find.  It has a few flaws however.  There were some slight  mixing issues plus the encore and other small parts were missing.  My guess is that a crew member had recorded this for their own posterity.  Anyway, I tried my best to patch it up just to make the ride less bumpy and added a fantasy encore, if you will, for good measure.  Oh and almost forgot, speaking of patching things.  This podcast opens with a very nice soundboard version of Echoes, however incomplete from 1987, but that's patched up too.  I explain more in the podcast.  Hope you dig it.

Originally Show #1, Air date: 20. March, 2004

In the Flesh concert #61, at Montreal's Olympic Stadium, 6. July 1977, during which the famous spitting incident occurred. This was the concert that broke the camel's back with obnoxious, large stadium crowds which intern inspired Roger's idea for building The Wall.

This was the last show of the tour and the last time Animals would be performed live by the Floyd. It was also the last time Roger would perform Wish You Were Here and Money with Pink Floyd until 28 years later for the famous Live8 reunion.

It's an audience recording from the floor section. Sound quality is about a 3.75 on a scale of 1 to 5, (5 being the best) and runs 2hrs 35mins in its entirety, unedited.

Show #47, Release date: 31. December, 2005

Yep... One ambitious, Fat Old Sun from Geelong, Australia asked me if he could have a go at making his own Brain Damage radio show for me to hear. I said why not and two weeks later he sent it to me. After listening to it, I feel it deserves some merit. After all he throws in some good narration, has a decent selection of songs and even used a music bed to talk over, just like mine. Fat Old Sun had no intention of this going public but I want to share it with you. Brain Damage "up above" (the original) will be back on 7. January, 2006.

Enjoy the surprise podcast and HAPPY NEW YEAR

Pink Floyd, Foxboro, Ma., 19. May 1994.
It was a cold, damp, drizzily "English" Thursday evening, typical Spring weather for May and perfect weather for a Pink Floyd show. It was the second night during their three night stay in the Boston area. It was Section B2, 19th Row (15 feet in front of the soundboard), Seat 19 (center stage). WOW! It was truly an incredible sensory overload.

The day after the concert, the sun was shining bright with few clouds in the sky, yet it was quite windy. Nonetheless, Pink Floyd's airship The Division Belle made a rare appearance.

Aye an a bit o' mackerel, fiddler, rack and fear, And I rutted down by the hade and the furrow. Well, I slipped me in a flop and hit down and I shied, and I cried, cried, cried. The fear of fallin' down aft' taken, never back to rise and then cried Mary and I tucked up Wi' a Claymore out and about, and I run down, down the mechyn sty and back on fiery hore that was fallin' around the feet. "Never!" I cried! "Never shall ye get me alive ya rotten hound of the Burnie Brae." Well, I snapped for a blade and a Claymore cut and thrust and I fell down before him 'round his feet. "Aye!" a roar he cried. Frae the bottom of his heart that I would nay fall but dead, dead as a can by a feat deah... and the wind cried Mary, Thank you.*

Sorry for the "slight" delay on this. I ran into some issues during the mastering process. No theme for this one. I'm been so ridiculously busy with my studies I've had little time to squeeze a good one out... hahaha!! Wait a second, that didn't sound right. I mean, I didn't spend as much time on this, as I would have liked, but for a last minute effort, this podcast came out well. Hope you like.

Electric Factory, Philadelphia, Pa, 26. September, 70 - If you close your eyes, you will feel as though you are there in the room. The Electric Factory, in Philadelphia (as you can see on the photo) is not very big. You can hear peoples' coughs echo off the walls during the quiet moments, it's that small of a "room".

The performance is excellent and there's a good amount of experimentation going on... more than usual for a 1970 Floyd show (based on what I've heard so far). Every song is played beautifully from start to finish. Interstellar Overdrive was especially "interesting". A very spaced out show indeed.

Whoever taped this show, where ever you are... I LOVE YOU!!!!!

Show #39, release date: 9. September, 2005

Okay, you waited long enough, here it is, the first full podcast. For now this will be a bi-weekly show.

This one runs 121 minutes. Now I have to say, this is very odd getting used to because it's so different than doing a live show on the air. I need to sharpen the axe a little.

Deep down I want to thank you for your infinite patience and willingness to wait almost four months for this to kick off.
I hope it wont disappoint you.

This show features only unique soundboard recordings, most of which are unreleased.
- A recording from Australia. Tennis anyone?
- Spooky sounds from Montreux your Mother warned you about
- Live8 comments from David Gilmour
- An Italian two-fer
- Three farm pigs running free in Berlin
- and lots more
